General Information
Hello children! My name is Paul and I would like to give you some general information about Africa. Africa is a big continent! After Asia it is the second-largest and second most-populous continent on earth. It covers more than 30 million square kilometres of land and more than 900 million people are living in Africa. Wow!
With so many people living there it is obvious that Africa combines many different cultures, religions and also languages. Also there are many beautiful animals on the continent and only in Africa we can still find the so called "big five": The lion, the leopard, the elephant, the buffalo and the rhino.
Nevertheless Africa is also a continent facing many problems. Most of the people live in much poorer conditions than in Europe or North America and still today millions of children are suffering from hunger and disease.
This is why thousands of organizations all over the world are trying to help the Africans, providing them with food, medicine and an education, so that they learn how to earn their own money and help their families and friends.
Our organization is especially helping the people in a country called "Ethiopia". Its capital is Addis Ababa. Ethiopia is a wonderful country with many waterfalls and mountains and colourful birds and savannahs.
It is situated in the so called Horn of Africa, bordering other countries like Eritrea, Kenya, Sudan and Somalia.
In the last century different countries have tried to take over the political and economical power in Ethiopia, leaving the people and especially the children for many years in a desperate situation. We are trying to change that!
