Creating self-sustainability for Women and the Elderly
Alchemy World runs community self sustainability programmes for mature women and the elderly. In many cases people are older and have never had a primary school education, and thus would not fit into our young entrepreneur fasttrack programmes.
In these cases we enable people to use their natural resources to develop a hand craft or agricultural product that can be sold domestically or internationally on a fair trade basis.
An example, is the Weyto community where we have been providing a donkey to enable the weak and frail to benefit from the transport of papyrus reed from the neary lake. This gave access for many people to the raw material to make baskets and therefore to the earning opportunities.
In addition Alchemy World are providing training to this same target group in basket weaving skills to increase the quality and therefore the price potential of their product. Soon these products will be available to buy from the Alchemy World e-shop, where profits will be ploughed back in more Alchemy World Programmes.
