Sabata School for the Blind

Sabata School for the Blind

Alchemy World, Ethiopian-based NGO African Village Developments and UK-based Ethiopiaid have joined forces to help improve the lives of blind students in Ethiopia.

At the end of January 2008 we visited the Sabata Blind School which is located 20 kilometres south-west of Addis Ababa. After meeting the director of the school we decided to place our first AWSEC for the blind at the compound of the Sabata School. Just like in our other AWSEC's the classes will consist of 24 students who will be enabled through a focused education to open their own mid-size businesses within 18 months. The school will be equipped with special computers and Braille printers and will open its gates in May 2008.

Furthermore we already made an initial donation to the Sabata School and provided equipment for the students, including the following:

- 78 canes for the blind

- Braille paper and books

- Glasses and mangnifying lenses

- Stylus needles and lenses
